  • Jerry Maguire (TOM CRUISE) is a 35-year-old hot sports agent for Sports Management International and has 72 clients. He's not happy, however, with the impersonal relationships he has with them and thus writes his "mission statement" titled "The Things We Think and Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business." His associates like it, but the management fires him.

He then races to contact all of his clients and have them leave SMI, but his former protégé, Bob Sugar (JAY MOHR), steals away all but Rod Tidwell (CUBA GOODING JR.), a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals. And the only associate who leaves with him is Dorothy Boyd (RENEE ZELLWEGER), a single mother looking for something new in her life.

They immediately bond both professionally and romantically, which is a good thing since Jerry's fiancé, Avery (KELLY PRESTON), has left him after his fall from the ranks of the rich and famous. Jerry is also drawn to Dorothy's son, Ray (JONATHAN LIPNICKI), and soon he and Dorothy become involved. But Jerry's future rides on renegotiating Tidwell's contract and during this time he learns that it's best to work from the heart as well as from the head in both his professional and personal life.

Writer/director Cameron Crowe followed up his critically accepted but barely seen first two films ("Say Anything" and "Singles') with this box office smash from 1996. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, this is a terrific ensemble piece that showcases some of the best work the various performers put on the screen before or since.

Whether it's Gooding, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, to Zellweger (in her first big role and who should have been nominated as well) and Cruise (who easily delivers one of the best performances of his career, balancing the big ego hustler we've grown used to him playing, with a more fragile man underneath) the characters are constantly interesting, engaging and sympathetic.

The person who steals the show, however, is little Jonathan Lipnicki who plays Dorothy's precocious son. With his bug-eyed gaze and spiked hair, he dominates every scene he's in and is a joy to watch.

Crowe's writing and directing are superb and the pacing works very well. The movie has a little of something for everyone, and those looking for comedy, romance, sports or a movie with a heartwarming message need look no further. We highly recommend this film (that's for adults - read our parental review for more information).

  • Recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall October 10, 2001, Britain's notorious naughty boy Robbie Williams -- former member of Take That -- flaunts his talented pipes and sings stunning renditions on classic songs such as "My Way," "Mack the Knife," "It Was a Very Good Year," and more. Joined by the likes of Jon Lovitz, Jane Horrocks, and Rupert Everett, Williams puts on quite an entertaining and highly enjoyable show that will have everyone's toes tapping along with the 58-piece orchestra and Williams' terrific covers of the songs.

Also included is Williams' terrific duet with actress Nicole Kidman on the classic "Somthing Stupid," which hit #1 in the UK, as well as a "making of" featurette regarding that music video collaboration.

Viewers should be aware that the disc contains strong profanity, sexually related dialogue and the occasional scantily clad dancers.
