  • Beneath the surface of small-town serenity lies a dark domain where innocents dare not tread and unpredictability is the norm. It is the haunting real of Blue Velvet. Spawned from the mind of writer/director David Lynch ("Mulholland Drive," "Twin Peaks"), the 1986 film tells the tale of clean-cut Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) who realizes his Mayberry-like hometown is not so normal after discovering a human ear in a field.

His investigation catapults him into an alluring, erotic murder mystery involving a disturbed nightclub singer (Isabella Rossellini) and a drug-addicted sadist (Dennis Hopper). Soon Jeffrey is led deep into their depraved existence - to the point of no return.

  • Once, long ago, before there was such a thing as time, the world was shrouded in darkness. Then came the splendor of light, bringing life and love into the Universe, and the Lord of Darkness retreated deep into the shadows of the earth, plotting his return to power...by banishing light forever.

In this classic fantasy/adventure, pure good and foulest evil will soon battle to the death. Set amid a timeless mythical forest inhabited by fairies, goblins and other magical folk is the story of Jack, a forest dweller who lives in solitude and harmony with the animals of the wood...including Unicorns, who are key to keeping light alive and evil at bay. Chosen by fate to undertake a heroic quest, Jack must brave a host of terrors to not only save his true love - a beautiful princess named Lili - from the clutches of the demonic Lord of Darkness, but also rescue a captive unicorn...or the world will be plunged into a never-ending ice age where the dawn never comes and evil reigns supreme.

Box-office idol Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible I and II, Vanilla Sky, Eyes Wide Shut) stars as Jack, a mortal with a pure heart who lives in solitude and harmony with the magical folk and animals of the forest. Mia Sara (Timecop, Ferris Bueller's Day Off) is Lili, a beautiful princess who loves Jack with all her heart. Lending his unique brand of menace and magnetism is Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Charlie's Angels) as the Lord of Darkness, who seeks to seduce the princess, kill the last unicorn and plunge the world into eternal night.

Originally released in 1985, this disc offers both the original and shorter U.S. version (with the score by Tangerine Dream) as well as director Ridley Scott's new director's cut that's longer and reinstates composer Jerry Goldsmith's original score.

But it isn't until he falls in love with Rachel (Tricia Vessey) that Jonathan begins to discover that life doesn't have to be so crazy after all…although it still helps to have a sense of humor about the wild things that happen in life!

  • First Blood: He never fought a battle he couldn't win - except the conflict raging in his own soul. Sylvester Stallone stars as war hero John Rambo. An ex-Green Beret haunted by memories of Vietnam, he was once the perfect killing machine. Now he's searching for peace, but finds instead an over-zealous, small-town sheriff (Brian Dennehy) who's spoiling for a fight. All hell breaks lose when an unjustly imprisoned Rambo escapes and becomes the target of a massive manhunt. Now he must use all his cunning, combat skills and weapons to stay alive and outwit his pursuers.

Rambo: First Blood Part II: Although Vietnam is officially over, Rambo remains the perfect fighting machine. His survival skills are tested with a vengeance on a top-secret mission that takes him back to the jungles of Vietnam in search of American POWs. When Rambo is double-crossed, this "expendable" hero, armed with just his bow, arrows and knife, must defeat savage enemies equipped with deadly firepower.

Rambo III: Combat has taken its toll on John Rambo, but he has finally begun to find inner peace inside a monastery - until his friend and mentor Col. Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna) shows up to ask for his help on a top-secret mission in Afghanistan. A war-weary Rambo declines, but when Trautman is captured, Rambo erupts into a one-man firestorm to rescue his former commanding officer and decimate the enemy.

Much like the "Rocky" films in which Stallone was also involved (both in front of and behind the camera in one way or another), the entries here progressively worsen after their solid debut. Released in 1982, the first film is a decent action drama - although often implausible and a bit too preachy at times in its message - that works in large part due to Stallone's performance.

Its success obviously spawned the 1985 sequel - penned, no less, by James "I'm King of the World" Cameron - as well as the 1988 follow-up. Both feature plenty of action and explosions for those looking for such material, but little else, and certainly seem to have traded in the original's attempts at dramatic depth for higher production values and costs.
