The film that put Pixar on the map and forever positioned that studio at the forefront of animated offerings (whether of the traditional hand drawn or computer generated varieties), the offering is a delight to behold from start to finish.
While some of the animation might look a little clunky (mainly the humans) considering the advancements that have been made in the past decade, the story still holds up and is just as entertaining today as it was back when it heralded the arrival of a new art form.
With tremendous vocal work, plenty of humor, wit and cleverness, a great score by Randy Newman and even a surprising amount of warmth among the characters, this is a must-have DVD for any viewer's collection (especially with the video and audio that have been souped-up for this release, along with the many supplemental materials).

Director Walter Hill claims his turf with The Warriors Ultimate Director's Cut! It's the stunning, must-see version of the classic film, loaded with special features that pack extra punch. The Warriors are ready to fight their way back to Coney Island, but standing in their path are some of the baddest, out-for-blood gangs in New York City. It'll take every bit of their street smarts and every weapon they can find to make it back alive! (Studio Copy)
In the introduction for the film, helmer Hill states that this new director's cut better represents his original vision of the film that was released back in 1979 (3 years before he broke out to huge success with "48 Hours"). Accordingly, he's added a prologue about Greek soldiers being stuck in a similar situation two thousand years ago in the Persian Empire, but that's not as annoying as the comic book-type panels that have been inserted as scene transitions (much like some comic book adaptations have done of recent and in the past).
While the film was always something of a pulpy and decidedly adult fable, those inserts don't really add much to the otherwise visceral and fast-paced experience based on Sol Yurick's original novel. Don't expect much from the dialogue or acting (in terms of drama), but the action and related choreography still holds up fairly well a quarter century later in this bare-bones thriller.

Nominated for 8 Oscars (and winner of 2 for Best Editing and Best Original Screenplay), this 1985 release was Australian director Peter Weir's first American picture. While some criticized it as being too mythologically idealized (with the quaint Amish contrasting the tough Philadelphians "painted" in simple, but old-fashioned, broad strokes), most everyone else found this adult drama (with a bits of a thriller mixed in for good measure) to their liking.
It was star Harrison Ford's first "real" performance (outside the sci-fi and action-adventure film genres that made him famous) and arguably one of his best, with good supporting performances from the likes of Kelly McGillis, Josef Summer, Lukas Haas (as the boy) and even Alexander Gudonov (before appearing in "Die Hard"). Filming on location in Amish communities of Pennsylvania certainly helped add authenticity to the proceedings.
