PLOT & PARENTAL REVIEW

VIDEO:
(A-) The picture is quite good, but suffers from compression-related pixelation that's very obvious in certain scenes, especially ones depicting solid colors, such as walls and shots of the sky. While less discerning viewers might not think it's too bad (after all, most people "grew up" on VHS quality), it's unfortunate since it mars an otherwise great picture that features razor sharp detail and vibrant colors.

Of course, one can always sit really far away from the TV and then not notice it, but that defeats the purpose. Since many newer discs that have been recently released are near picture perfect, it's too bad these problems -- which aren't horrible, but certainly shouldn't occur -- have to plague titles like this.

AUDIO:
(A+) The audio, however, is great. With crisp dialogue, full use of the soundtrack's dynamic range, and as many perfectly silly sound effects as there are sight and plot gags, the disc -- while not what one would usually consider demonstration quality -- is still excellent.
EXTRAS:
  • Scene selection/Jump to any scene.
  • Production Featurette -- 2 minutes
  • COMMENTS:
Perhaps the filmmakers have run the well dry -- so to speak -- when making such goofy, gag-infested features, but some funny supplemental material would have been nice. Instead, all we get is a two minute "production featurette" that's not really worthwhile.

Even so, this film -- which isn't the best of genre (that accolade still goes to "Airplane"), especially considering director Jim Abrahams' previous efforts (such as "Ruthless People") -- should please those who like clever, goofy, and occasionally tasteless jokes coming at them nonstop and rolled up into one fast paced package.
