QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: The two juvenile delinquent MTV cartoon characters have their TV stolen and inadvertently get involved in a national crisis while searching for a replacement set.
PLOT:
Beavis and Butt-head (both voices by MIKE JUDGE) are two juveniles whose lives consist of watching MTV. When their TV is stolen, the two set out to find a replacement set. Neither are mentally swift and thus inadvertently get involved in a murder-for-hire case involving a man, Muddy, who wants to bump off his wife, Dallas. The boys, however, think they've been hired to have sex with the woman. When they finally encounter her, she hides a top-secret biological weapon, the X-5 virus unit, in Beavis' pants and sends them to Washington where she says she'll later meet them. Little do they know that the government is after them and the device and Agent Fleming (voice of ROBERT STACK) will do anything to get it back. As they board a tour bus headed for D.C., they meet many people, including an elderly lady on a bus (voice of CLORIS LEACHMAN), as they get to tour the country.
WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
If they're fans of the MTV program, they will.
WHY THE MPAA RATED IT: PG-13
For continuous crude sex-related humor and language, and for a drug-related scene.
CAST AS ROLE MODELS:
None of the characters are good role models.

HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

OUR TAKE: 2 out of 10
Certain to entertain the built-in core audience of young male teenagers, we were surprised to see that this film is a big draw for the male college age crowd as well. Crudely drawn and lacking in anything resembling sophisticated comedy, the movie has a few funny moments, but there aren't that many. The two characters are definitely an acquired taste and while one hates to admit it, their stupidity (resembling that of the characters from "Dumb and Dumber" -- just more juvenile) will bring out a few laughs. But most of the attempts at humor come from the characters finding sexual references in ordinary words ("wood," "hard," etc...) and thus will appeal to hormone filled young teenage males who probably identify with these characters' thoughts. Adult audiences, however, will find the characters and plot to be rather inane, and will soon become restless after a short amount of time. Teen males will love it, but everyone else will probably find it repulsive, if not boring. We give it a 2 out of 10.
OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
A parent's biggest concern with this movie should be that their boys might imitate the two characters' actions. Granted this is an animated feature, but the juvenile and hormone-based humor might be a draw to that crowd. The worst of the content deals with scatological humor (implied and repeated body cavity searches) and sexually related material, including masturbation and the boys wanting to "score" (have sex). While nothing's seen (other than a quick, but not graphic sex scene between two other characters), there is a lot of talk and some extremely juvenile references to erections and genitals. Language is stepped up from the TV program, but isn't as bad as one would expect. There's some cartoon type violence and the boys are particularly stupid and can't read very well (both of which are another basis for "humor"). While it's doubtful you as a parent will want to see this, your teenage boy(s) probably will. Thus, we suggest that you read through the category listings to determine if the material in this film is appropriate for your kids.

ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • Muddy drinks whiskey and drunkenly drives the two to the airport.
  • People are seen drinking in Vegas.
  • Butt-head swipes a beer from a sleeping man on a plane and tries to impress the flight attendant with it.
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • Both characters think that anything they don't like or find interesting is "stupid" or "sucks." Thus, they are rude to many other people.
  • Some thieves steal Beavis and Butt-head's TV.
  • Beavis and Butt-head try to steal the TV from their high school, even after a teacher has told them to return it.
  • Butt-head "moons" a chauffeur and later both of them do the same to the Capitol.
  • Butt-head swipes a beer from a sleeping man on a plane and tries to impress the flight attendant.
  • Both boys see women as sex objects and call them "babes" and "chicks."
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • None.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • Machine Guns/Missiles: Fired upon the Godzilla sized Butt-head in a dream he has.
  • Handguns: Carried and shot by Beavis and Butt-head in the opening credit spoof of the cop shows of the 1970's.
  • Handgun: Used by Muddy to threaten Beavis and Butt-head and to shoot the TV they've come to watch.
  • Handgun: Held by Dallas on the boys.
  • Rifles: Carried by the ATF agents chasing the boys and once used to hit a teacher in the stomach.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • Phrases: "Bung hole," "Sucks," "Shut up," "Anus," "Butt hole," "Geez," "Sluts," "Butt head," I've got to take a dump," "Bastards," "Ass wipe," "Numb nuts," and "Dumb ass."
  • Both of the characters enjoy misunderstanding what's said to them and then picking out words or semblances of words that they find juvenile humor in. They laugh at "anus," "wood," "hard," etc...
  • Kids may imitate the "heh-heh" laughter of the two characters.
  • Butt-head "moons" a chauffeur and then both do the same to the Capitol.
  • Butt-head makes the gesture for male masturbation.
  • The two boys can barely read and make being dumb seem funny (to some audience members) and younger kids might think that's how they should act.
  • Beavis picks his nose several times.
  • An older guy turns around at a campfire, pulls down his pants and farts (and there's the resulting cartoon A-bomb type explosion).
  • Twice Beavis takes lots of pills from an older woman (without regard to what they are) and gets all hyped up from them.
  • Butt-head pushes Beavis from the back of a speeding car who then smacks and bounces on the road and causes a major traffic accident with many cars crashing and exploding. Butt-head then falls from the car and causes the same reaction.
  • JUMP SCENES
  • None.
  • MUSIC (SCARY/TENSE)
  • None.
  • MUSIC (INAPPROPRIATE)
  • The word "ass" is heard in the opening credits song and other songs have lyrics that cannot be understood (so other material may be present).
  • PROFANITY
  • 2 slang terms for male genitals ("Schlong"), 32 damns, 17 hells, 10 "ass" words, 5 craps, 1 SOB, and 4 uses of "God damn," 2 of "Jesus" and 1 each of "Lord," "Jesus jumped up Christ," and "Oh my God" as exclamations.
  • SEX/NUDITY
  • There are several references to Beavis and Butt-head "whacking off" (masturbating) in a man's tool shed and in his camper. At one point the camper is seen rocking back and forth and an older man finds Beavis masturbating (we only see the outside of the camper) and tells him to put his pants back on.
  • Beavis and Butt-head open a motel door to find their principal bent over a bed with his pants down and a woman spanking him.
  • Muddy hires Beavis and Butt-head to "do his wife." He's putting a contract out on her but they think that he wants them to "score" (have sex) with her. Muddy warns that Dallas (the wife) will "do you twice as fast as you'll do her" and the boys find that exciting.
  • Muddy is asked if Dallas has "big hooters."
  • Beavis and Butt-head are excited when they hear an older lady say there's plenty of "slots" in Las Vegas because they think she said "sluts."
  • Butt-head "moons" a chauffeur and his bare cartoon butt is seen. Later the boys "moon" the Capitol and both their cartoon bare butts are seen.
  • Beavis and Butt-head stare at the (cartoon) bare breasts on a female masthead (of a ship) seen in Vegas.
  • Butt-head makes the gesture for male masturbation.
  • The boys meet Dallas and Butt-head says, "Hey, baby, are we like — going to do it?" She then warns them that they have about two seconds and he responds "Is that enough time?"
  • Dallas then tells the boys she'll pay them double to go back and "do" (kill) Muddy. Butt-head doesn't want to "do" (have sex) with a guy, but Beavis says it's a lot of money and they could "pretend the guy's a chick."
  • As the boys fight over her, Dallas shows some cleavage and then says, "Don't waste all of your energy...save some for me."
  • Butt-head sees a sign that says, "Master Station Control," and since he can't read, he says "Master . . . ation . . . masturbation."
  • Butt-head listens to a man in a Church confessional say that he slept with a woman. Butt-head then asks if she was naked (the man says yes) and if he "saw her boobs."
  • A school teacher sings a song about "Lesbian seagulls," but nothing worse than those words are heard.
  • Several men who may or may not be the boys' fathers say that fifteen years ago they "scored with some chicks" and one of them claims to have "scored with both of them."
  • Two vultures are seen having sex out in the desert.
  • Butt-head says "I'm jacking off" when he uses a car jack to open the trunk of a car from the inside.
  • Both boys state that they're looking for "the women with the big hooters" and later Beavis laments that he's never going to "score" (have sex).
  • Muddy and Dallas are discovered having sex in a car. There's no nudity, but there is some brief sexual movement.
  • There are also references to the "unit," and the boys think the government agents are referring to their penises (ie. "Where's the unit?" "In my pants" and "Give us the unit now." "Why does everybody want to see my schlong?").
  • SMOKING
  • Muddy smokes in several scenes.
  • People are seen smoking in Vegas.
  • TENSE FAMILY SCENES
  • None.
  • TOPICS TO TALK ABOUT
  • How the two characters are bad role models.
  • What a "cavity search" is (Agent Fleming orders them to be performed on various people).
  • VIOLENCE
  • A giant Butt-head and Beavis (of Godzilla-like proportions) smash up a city. They knock aside a helicopter and terrorize a woman in a building. The two then get into a fight where they punch each other and crash into the buildings.
  • The two attempt to "borrow" the TV from their high school and end up dropping it down the stairs where it smashes to the sidewalk and breaks.
  • On different occasions, Beavis or Butt-head slaps the other to get his attention or to shut him up.
  • Muddy says that he's going to go to Vegas himself and "kill all three of them" (Beavis, Butt-head, and Dallas).
  • The two boys fight over who gets to "do" Dallas first, but neither gets the chance.
  • A huge wall of water washes away a vacationing couple after the boys let the water out of the Hoover dam.
  • Lightning strikes both the boys after they leave a church.
  • An ATF agent hits a teacher in the gut with the butt of his rifle and another smashes the teacher's guitar.
  • Butt-head pushes Beavis from the back of a speeding car who then smacks and bounces on the road and causes a major traffic accident with many cars crashing and exploding. Butt-head then falls from the car and causes the same reaction.
  • Butt-head is pushed out of a window at the White House.
