QUICK TAKE:
Comedy: Two stoners turn Harvard upside down after smoking some special weed that helps them ace their college entrance exams.
PLOT:
Silas (METHOD MAN) is known as the medicine man in his Staten Island neighborhood where he concocts all sorts of herb and drug-based remedies for any and all maladies. His friend Ivory (CHUCK DAVIS) thinks he should attend college, but doesn't get the chance himself when he's killed in a freak accident. In honor of his friend, Silas plants some cannabis in his ashes.

Jamal (REDMAN), on the other hand, is less industrious and lives in Jersey where his mother constantly badgers him to graduate from college, something that seems unlikely since he's spent the last six years at a two-year community college.

The two young men meet in a parking lot before taking some college entrance tests and smoke the pot grown in Ivory's ashes. With Ivory's ghost appearing and claiming he has "their back," the two take and ace the tests. Suddenly, everyone wants them to attend their colleges, including Harvard's Chancellor Huntley (FRED WILLARD) and Dean Cain (OBBA BABATUNDÉ).

The latter soon finds that was a mistake as he sees the two stoners clash with the university's austere atmosphere. Disrespectful of him and most everyone else, Silas and Jamal set out to have fun and get high all of the time, something that infuriates Bart (CHRIS ELWOOD), the captain of the crew team, especially when Silas starts hitting on his girlfriend, Lauren (LARK VOORHIES).

Jamal, on the other hand, is interested in Jamie (ESSENCE ATKINS), the spirited daughter of the Vice President of the U.S. (JEFFREY JONES). As the two men are accompanied by their mute friend, I Need Money (AL SHEARER), interact with their classmates including Jeffrey (JUSTIN URICH) and Tuan (TRIEU TRAN), and infuriate the university's unofficial "hall monitor," Gerald (T.J. THYNE), they continue smoking pot, having a good time ruffling feathers and acing their tests thanks to their special pot.

Yet, when it finally runs out, the two men must figure out what to do to prevent being kicked out of Harvard, all while dealing with an angry pimp, Baby Powder (MIKE EPPS), and the crew coach (HECTOR ELIZONDO), who wants to spite Bart. As they continue to pursue Lauren and Jamie, Silas tries to come up with some sort of herbal breakthrough that will impress Professor Wood (TRACEY WALTER) and thus keep them in school.

WILL KIDS WANT TO SEE IT?
If they're fans of Method Man, Redman or anyone else in the cast or of "stoner" films, they probably will.

    HOW OTHERS RATED THIS MOVIE

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
Here's a quick summary of the content found in this R-rated comedy. Profanity is listed as extreme due to the use of more than 100 "f" words (some occurring in songs on the soundtrack), while many other expletives and colorful phrases are also spoken. A great deal of sexually related dialogue is also present - some of it being explicit - with talk of erections, oral sex and the like.

Two men are seen simultaneously having sex with two women in the same room (with movement and sounds); a man imagines the beginning of a sexual encounter with a woman; a guy is briefly and partially seen masturbating while watching a lesbian porno tape; and a bare-breasted woman is briefly seen.

Many characters smoke pot throughout the entire film (with bong use and the eating of pot-laced brownies also occurring), while various characters also drink, and a great deal of drug-related dialogue is present. That, and other behavior may be enticing for some kids to imitate, particularly when the film implies (in a non serious fashion) that pot smoking makes one quite intelligent.

Various characters have varying degrees of bad attitudes, some scatological/gross out material is present (including copious, projectile vomiting and the exhumation of a decomposed body), and various characters hit others or purposefully injure themselves, while one character catches on fire and falls from a window to his death (after also being hit by a bus - all played for laughs) and some pigeons explode after purposefully being fed something that causes them to blow up.

If you're still concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

    ALCOHOL OR DRUG USE
  • None of the material in the film is meant to be taken seriously, but the following is present.
  • Silas is a drug grower and dealer who distributes all sorts of narcotics to people who come by his place with various problems. One man comes by for a herbal remedy to his impotence problems (with Silas telling him that smoking what he's been given will help him forget that) and another man states that he's starting to recognize things, prompting Silas to tell him that's because he's coming off a three month crack binge.
  • Ivory visits Silas for some drugs with which to watch some movies.
  • Jamal's mother gets after him for finding weed on him and then shows the bong she found (he states it's a lamp).
  • After all of that, Silas and Jamal, along with others, smoke joints (or use bongs) throughout the film (and occasionally react to the strength of what they're smoking). In one scene, the two smoke joints in a car that we see completely filled with pot smoke, while a later scene shows Jeffrey trying to study while wearing a gas mask in a room filled with pot smoke.
  • In addition, the two become super intelligent whenever they smoke pot and thus do so before their tests, and people can only see Ivory's ghost after they smoke pot taken from a plant grown in his ashes.
  • After Gerald states that he's looking for illegal substances (to confiscate them), Silas and Jamal state that they're looking for them as well, but for different reasons.
  • Ivory drinks.
  • Some college girls drink beer.
  • Silas brings a six-pack over for Lauren.
  • While smoking some joints, we also see some beers in front of some of the guys.
  • The crew coach drinks from a flask while some of his students smoke joints.
  • The guys make brownies filled with pot and anonymously give them to the Dean (so that he unknowingly gets high, which he does in a later scene and proclaims that he has "the munchies").
  • People drink at a party.
  • Lauren smokes a joint at a party (as do others), while Gerald also smokes pot (and does so repeatedly from that point on).
  • The guys decide to dig up John Quincy Adams so that they can use his body to get high and we see one trying to smoke his finger like a joint.
  • Silas throws what's presumably pot into a fireplace, sending its fumes everywhere and getting everyone high, while some people also drink champagne or wine. Later, various people smoke from a bong and the Vice-President smokes a joint (joking that he didn't inhale).
  • BLOOD/GORE
  • None of the material in the film is meant to be taken seriously, but the following is present.
  • A man's head is bloody after purposefully smashing it against something to get some drugs from Silas (after asking if he has anything for a head wound and Silas tells him he doesn't have such an injury).
  • We hear some farting sounds in several scenes and see someone reacting to the smell inside a parked car in one of them.
  • One of the guys drinks some water and then reacts to the taste. Jeffrey then states that it's toilet water (for his pledging requirements), causing someone to state, "Your breath smells like straight ass crack."
  • We see a reddish sore on a guy's mouth.
  • Tuan and others spread something like birdseed in the dean's office so that pigeons will be attracted to it. Whatever it is, however, causes the pigeons to blow up and we see guts spraying everywhere.
  • A man does a great deal of exaggerated projectile vomiting, and we then see vomit on his face.
  • The guys decide to dig up John Quincy Adams so that they can use his body to get high and we see the decomposed body and the guys reacting to the smell of it. One then starts to cut off his arm with what looks like large bolt cutters, but they all react to the sound of that. We then see them putting his hand into a blender and grinding it up.
  • DISRESPECTFUL/BAD ATTITUDE
  • None of the material in the film is meant to be taken seriously, but the following is present.
  • Jamal and Silas have angry/bad attitudes toward anyone who doesn't go along with their lifestyle, beliefs and/or behavior. They're also disrespectful to the Dean.
  • Bart immediately looks down on Silas and Jamal.
  • Gerald is overzealous in giving out his student citations for bad/illegal behavior on the campus.
  • Silas and Jamal sell videotapes of their dual sexual encounter with two young women.
  • The guys call in a fake bomb threat/announcement.
  • Tuan and others spread something like birdseed in the dean's office so that pigeons will be attracted to it. Whatever it is, however, causes the pigeons to blow up when they eat the food and we see some of that as well as feathers flying everywhere.
  • The guys decide to dig up John Quincy Adams so that they can use his body to get high.
  • FRIGHTENING SCENES
  • None.
  • GUNS/WEAPONS
  • Ax: Used by the dean to try to strike some people.
  • Tasers: Used to shock him into submission.
  • IMITATIVE BEHAVIOR
  • None of the material in the film is meant to be taken seriously, but the following is present.
  • Phrases: "What the f*ck /is your problem/is going on/is this/is he going to do/are you doing/is that?" "Shut up before I kick your ass," "This is boring as hell," "I'll be damned," "Wild ass," "Big ass," "Grab ass" "Wax that ass" and "Pissing,"
  • The pot smoking, cussing, other behavior and attitudes of Silas and Jamal might be enticing for some kids to imitate. That's especially true for the pot smoking since it makes the guys ultra intelligent.
  • We see a photo of a man giving "the finger" to the camera.
  • Jamal and Silas throw their voices so that it seems like another student is badmouthing the Dean.
  • The guys call in a fake bomb threat/announcement and then pull over a statue on the campus with their car.

  • We see a woman's bare breasts and part of her butt as she lies in Silas' bed.
  • Silas mentions something about foreplay regarding his date (his picture of her is of her clothed butt as she bends over) and then asks if he can "grab a t*t" (regarding the above woman on the bed). A comment is made about a plant being a natural aphrodisiac and one that's a cure for "blue balls."
  • Ivory makes a comment about "coming" and mentions that a woman in a Hollywood movie has nice "t*tties."

We then see her climbing on top of him, kissing him in her tight dress, and hear her saying she wants to feel him deep inside her. He's imagining all of that, however, as he comes to in class and we see him lying by himself on a table as other students stare at him.
  • We hear some sexual sounds and then see Tuan apparently masturbating while watching a TV show/video showing two lesbians (his hand is moving at his crotch). Another guy then states that he hasn't seen a "stitch of p*ssy" since they've been there.
  • A guy comments that a "fat chick" is good because there's "more cushion for the pushing."
  • After some college girls state that they're virgins, Silas and Jamal don't believe them. We then see them having sex with the girls at the same time in the same room under the sheets (between their legs with movement and sounds, but no nudity). • We see various prostitutes, one named "End Table Ass," dressed in typical hooker garb.
  • Jamie and the Dean's wife show cleavage.
  • The guys tell Tuan and Jeffrey that some prostitutes at a party want to have a "d*ck sucking marathon." One of the women mentions that phrase again and one tells one of the guys that she's going to "make you mine." Jeffrey then mentions some part of one of the women smelling good and one of the women says, "Don't be scared, it's only p*ssy."
  • A woman wearing short shorts (that show some of her butt) climbs on top of Jeffrey. Another woman tells Tuan to climb out of his costume and "into some p*ssy."

  • While searching for something else under a bed, Gerald pulls out a used condom.
  • The two "virgins" tell a pimp and his assistant that they're virgins (but they're not, since they had sex with Silas and Jamal). The pimp then states that "d*ck" runs the car and not "p*ssy." He then smacks them and they find that exciting.
