QUICK TAKE:
Horror: A half-vampire, half-human vampire hunter reluctantly joins his prey in finding and killing a new and more dangerous breed of vampires.
PLOT:
Blade (WESLEY SNIPES) is a half-human, half-vampire whose mission in life has been to find and kill all vampires. His mentor, Whistler (KRIS KRISTOFFERSON), the man who invented a serum to allow Blade to be in the daylight - thus his nickname of "Daywalker" - has been missing for years and presumed dead.

Yet, Blade eventually finds, rescues and gives him an antidote to counter the vampirism that now afflicts him. Blade's new technician/inventor partner, Scud (NORMAN REEDUS), isn't thrilled to have the old man back in their fold, but the three soon learn they have bigger fish to fry. It seems that a mutant super-vampire, Nomak (LUKE GOSS), is on the loose and killing other vampires.

Accordingly, vampire overlord Damaskinos (THOMAS KRETSCHMANN) has sent his daughter, Nyssa (LEONOR VARELA) and her co-warrior, Asad (DANNY JOHN JULES), to convince Blade and his team to join the vampires in an unusual alliance to find and kill Nomak before he infects and creates a multitude of other super-vampires, known as Reapers.

Realizing the potential global Armageddon Nomak and the others could wreak on the world, Blade cautiously agrees and then meets the Bloodpack, a group of vampires led by Reinhardt (RON PERLMAN) that were specifically trained to find and kill Blade. Among its members are Chupa (MATT SCHULZE), Priest (TONY CURRAN), Snowman (DONNIE YEN), Lighthammer (DAZ CRAWFORD) and Verlaine (MARIT VELLE KILE), and they're just as unhappy about working with Daywalker as he is to allow them to live.

Nevertheless, the unlikely team then sets out to find Nomak only to discover, among other things, that he and the other reapers are more powerful than originally thought.

Curious if this title is entertaining, any good, and/or has any artistic merit?
Then read OUR TAKE of this film.

(Note: The "Our Take" review of this title examines the film's artistic merits and does not take into account any of the possibly objectionable material listed below).

    OUR WORD TO PARENTS:
Here's a quick look at the content found in this R-rated horror film. Violence is listed as extreme due to a tremendous amount of lethal and bloody violence that occurs throughout the film where various forms of vampires and others are killed in various fashions (gunfire, stabbings, decapitation, explosion, etc.) when not attacking others in a more traditional vampire style. Other brutal but non-lethal fighting is also present. Many of the killings and other material have extremely bloody and/or gory results, and such moments and others may be unsettling, suspenseful or downright scary to some viewers.

Profanity consists of at least 28 "f" words, while other expletives and colorful phrases are also uttered. Some brief, sexually related dialogue is present, while a character visits a sex store/strip club and some paraphernalia and photos are briefly seen. Various characters have bad attitudes, some smoke and a few miscellaneous ones do drugs. Some imitative behavior is also present.

Should you still be concerned about the film and its appropriateness for yourself or anyone else in your home who may be interested in seeing it, we suggest that you take a closer look at our detailed listings for more specific information regarding the film's content.

For those concerned with the repetitive flashing of bright lights on the screen, some strobe-like effects are present in a vampire hangout/club.

Blade then uses something akin to piano wire to decapitate the vampire, also causing him to dissolve. He then holds that man's bare head near the spinning wheel, but the scene ends there.

  • We see blood all over a reaper's face after it comes back together as we see him feeding on another being. Another vampire then shoots him with a machine gun but it does no good. • A character slices another completely in half and there's a little bit of blood before the latter dissolves.
  • Whistler fires a machine gun into jars of vampire embryos.
