VIDEO:
(B-) Considering that the film is 25 years old and that movies from that era often had an overall muted look, the picture quality here is pretty good. Despite compression-related artifacts (pixelation in light and solid colors -- particularly views of the sky) and wear and tear problems (scratches and other blips), the overall quality is decent. Although much of the film takes place in dimly lit scenes, other moments nicely display vibrant colors.
AUDIO:
(B-) The audio is okay, but comes off rather flat with a limited dynamic range.

  • COMMENTS:
While the film's picture and audio quality are decent -- especially when considering the movie's age -- the supplement materials are what make this release a "must have" for fans of the film. With the running commentaries and the 75+ minute documentary, along with the other added material, this is truly a "collector's edition." Don't watch it alone or at night, however, as it's still one of the most frightening pictures ever made.
