VIDEO:
(C-) Clearly, this isn't a disc that best shows the visual capabilities of DVDs. Heavy compression- related pixelation occurs throughout the film, particularly in lighter solid colors. Although outdoor (and more brightly lit scenes) looks a little better, overall the picture isn't very good. In addition, many film artifacts (scratches and other blips -- not surprising considering the film's age and the presumed lack of a pristine transfer print) are also quite noticeable.
AUDIO:
(C) The digital mono soundtrack features crisp dialogue, but can't do much with the rest of the score (and obviously has no spatial effects due to the lack of stereo tracks).
EXTRAS:
  • Scene selection/Jump to any scene.
  • Production Notes -- 7 pages of on-screen text
  • Cast & Crew filmographies and biographies (on-screen text)
  • Trailer
  • Additional trailers for "High Plains Drifter," "Joe Kidd," and "Beguiled."
  • COMMENTS:
Diehard Eastwood fans may want to pick up this disc, but it's highly unlikely others will be interested in it (especially considering the overall lackluster, but not particularly surprising, mediocre presentation). Despite a thrilling mountain climbing sequence, the rest of the film is rather bland.
