Plot: The crew of the starship Enterprise races out to intercept a mysterious and apparently hostile alien force that's headed for Earth. (Parental review not available).

AUDIO/VIDEO ELEMENTS:
Considering its age, the film doesn't look bad, but for those expecting a pristine image, they're bound to be disappointed. A number of rather visible film artifacts (scratches and other blips, etc.) are readily visible, while certain scenes are rather grainy and/or contain instances of shimmer and pulsating, especially in regards to various special effects scenes. Color reproduction is decent, but not vibrant in its occasionally somewhat muted appearance.

The audio, on the other hand, mostly sounds terrific and is light years ahead of previous versions due to the remixing of the audio tracks into Dolby Digital 5.1. Most notable is John William's powerful and impressive score that simply sounds terrific. Although the dialogue occasionally sounds a bit flat in its tonal response, the various sound, spatial and surround effects sound rather good (the wormhole and later "lightning" effects being the most notable), and bass response is both clean and deep.
