PLOT & PARENTAL REVIEW

VIDEO:
(B-) While the picture is relatively sharp, many compression-related artifacts compromise the picture's overall integrity. As such, pixelation is readily apparent in any light and solid colors, while nonmoving backgrounds occasionally exhibit that "frozen" look associated with DVDs not updating such parts of the picture.
AUDIO:
(A-) Crisp and clean. While it may not tax your audio system, the typical musical "punches" usually associated with horror films deliver the requisite sonic jolts.
EXTRAS:
  • Scene selection/Jump to any scene.
  • Running commentary by director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson about the making of the film.
  • 2 movie trailers for the film (for general and restricted audiences).
  • 7 TV commercials (30 and 60 seconds).
  • Production Featurette (6+ minutes) with cast & crew interviews and clips from the film.
  • 2 Behind the Scenes segments (around 3 minutes each).
  • 2 Q & A segments with the cast and crew (2+ minutes each) about "What's your favorite scary movie?" and "Why are people so fascinated by horror films?"
  • Special Effects Gallery -- 18 stills of sketches and props.
  • Cast & Crew filmography and biographies (10 -- text only).
  • "Did You Know?" -- 19 text-based trivia facts about the film.
  • COMMENTS:
Despite the occasional video artifacts, this is a decent DVD release. While some of the supplemental material could have been jettisoned and other parts should have been expanded, fans of the film will enjoy the running commentary by Craven and Williamson regarding their insight into the film's production.
