PLOT & PARENTAL REVIEW

VIDEO:
(A-) Although the disc shows a bit of compression-related pixelation at times (a set of office blinds are particularly noticeable), and is often dark and lacking in vibrant colors (purposefully done in the original film with much of it occuring indoors and/or at night), the DVD otherwise looks great.
AUDIO:
(A) While there's an odd popping during the opening credits, it disappears once the score stops (thus it seems to be intentional), the rest of the disc sounds great and features a good dynamic range.
EXTRAS:
  • Scene selection/Jump to any scene.
  • Cast & Crew (limited) filmography and biography (stills).
  • "The 11th Hour -- Stories From Real-Life Negotiators" (6+ minutes) Stories from an LAPD officer.
  • On location feature (16+ minutes). Interviews with the film's director and others talking about its production.
  • Theatrical trailer.
  • "About the Story" -- 3 still pages of text and photos.
  • "Chicago Shooting" -- 4 still pages of text and photos.
  • Trailers for "Sphere," "A Time to Kill," "LA Confidential," and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."
  • COMMENTS:
Although the extras are plentiful, beyond the 16 minute "behind the scenes" feature, the rest is pretty much fluff (the LAPD negotiator bit could have been longer). Even so, the film, until the very end, is a riveting thriller and plenty of fun to watch.
